A run for your money

  • Date 19 Feb 2016

A team of 60 staff, family and friends will be donning lime green running tops and taking to the streets to raise money for the company’s ‘charity of the year’ – chosen by the staff – the Cambridge-based Arthur Rank Hospice Charity. Their fundraising efforts will be matched pound for pound by Cambridge Consultants – giving a double boost to the charity, which provides specialist palliative care and support for patients and their families, friends and carers.

“We are delighted to be supporting this fantastic community event, which gets bigger and better every year,” said Alan Richardson, CEO of Cambridge Consultants. “We also hope to raise lots of money for the Arthur Rank Hospice Charity, whose dedicated staff provide such vital help and support for local people.”

Senior engineer Shaun Watson, one of the founders of the Cambridge Consultants team, said: “We are really pleased to be entering another team after the success of last year’s event, and excited to be running the new course for the first time. We had a real mix of abilities last year – with times ranging from 1hr 23min to 3hr 20min – but we were very proud that the whole team made it to the finishing line.

“This year we’ve gone one step further and the company has arranged for experts to come in at lunchtime to analyse our running style and teach us good training techniques so that colleagues who are new to running can enjoy the event safely. The fact that Cambridge Consultants doubles the money we raise really spurs us on when we’re out training together in all weathers!”

Last year Cambridge Consultants staff set a new record with their charity fundraising efforts – raising £40,000 for the East Anglian Air Ambulance. The money was the result of activities including a monthly cake trolley, sales of bacon butties and regular raffles, as well as the half marathon.
