Community volunteering opportunity in Northstowe

  • Date 28 Jun 2021

Could you help us? We have two volunteering opportunities supporting community development in Northstowe: at the Wing on Wednesday mornings we are launching a café, and in the afternoons our Foodbank (part of the Cambridge City Trussell Trust foodbank) serves those in our community who need support the most.

Café volunteers will serve teas, filter coffees and a simple selection of cold drinks and snacks, handle cash and card payments, and clear and clean the used crockery (appropriate PPE will be provided).

Foodbank volunteers welcome visitors to the centre, help them with their food and, subject to lockdown restrictions, spend time chatting with them. Foodbank visitors are referred by support agencies, such as Citizens Advice, SCDC, Pathfinder Church and the local schools.

Volunteers are needed for a minimum of 3.5 hours, either 9.30am-1pm for the café or 1.30-3.30 for the Foodbank. If you would like to stay all day, you would be most welcome! No experience is necessary, and all training will be provided.

This is a great opportunity for staff whose organisations have volunteering days available – support your newest local community to thrive!

To volunteer with the Café, please sign up for sessions at bit.ly/pioneercafevolunteers or email friendsofthewing@gmail.com with any questions!
