An opportunity has arisen in our Cambridge-based Operations Team which is responsible for manufacturing, packing, shipping, health & safety and facilities management coordination.

The Production Team Leader role is responsible for managing a team of Production Scientists/Operators/Technicians with a professional approach. Acting as a role model, this will include all aspects of team management, including ensuring the quality and on time delivery of required products to meet demand requirements.

What you’ll be doing for us:

  • Ensure a team tier meeting is performed at the start and end of every day, with key issues clearly identified and prioritised
  • Review outstanding work with respect to stock shortfalls/customer demand and prioritise activities of the team and assign duties
  • Create monthly campaign plans for team, based on WIP shortfalls and demand
  • Identify and investigate root causes of performance variation, and propose improvements/resolutions, to ensure continuity of quality at all times, following change control requirements defined in our quality systems
  • Role-model company values, leading by example with a safety-first approach, and constantly challenge to improve our processes with continual improvement
  • Perform intermediate and finished product batch record review prior to Production release, ensuring production and quality Right First Time are maintained
  • Raise Improvements/Non-Conforming Material incidents, carry out investigations/ root cause analysis, and implement corrections and corrective actions.
  • Plan the onboarding and ongoing training of new starters. Undertake the upskilling of all team members to optimise team efficiency and drive engagement.
  • Supervise and ensure replacement of Production Laboratory raw materials, including consumables.
  • Deputise for manufacturing management when required to ensure output and performance. Be accountable for production quality output on-time and in-full.
  • Conduct return-to-work and absence review meetings.
  • Conduct performance reviews and goal and development plan activities.
  • Hire and onboard new starters.
  • Oversee and ensure the maintenance of cleanliness and organisation of the laboratory areas, bench areas and fridge/freezers.
  • Feedback regularly on team progress and write update reports as required.
  • Write and update SOPs, BMRs and other required documentation.
  • Involvement in Technical Transfer preparation, including article code generation and in-depth use of database systems.
  • Plan and lead housekeeping, safety and compliance GEMBA.
  • To adhere to procedures documented in the quality management system and to ensure that non-compliances are reported in a timely manner using approved procedures.
  • Undertake additional compliance training to further support the department and ongoing development programmes.
  • Participate as a core team representative for Production in assigned project meetings.
  • To report any safety related or other issues arising to the Production Manager, including the completion of relevant documentation. Resolve independently when trained and able to do so.
  • To complete any other tasks as commensurate with the level and nature of the post as delegated by the Production Manager.

What we are looking for in you:

Essential

  • More than 12 months experience in a scientific manufacturing environment, or equivalent
  • Good teamwork and interpersonal skills; with the ability to lead, train and support others
  • Proactive and independent, with a high level of autonomy and initiative
  • Attention to detail and a systematic approach
  • Role Model Leader – Hands on approach and flexible attitude to daily work/responsibilities, ability to lead by example
  • A calm approach and ability to act promptly when responding to production critical troubleshooting
  • High level of competency with MS Office (Word, Excel)
  • Experience of training others.

Desirable

  • A good first degree, A-Levels or equivalent qualification in a biological related discipline.
  • Experience of molecular biology techniques, such as PCR and Nick Translation
  • Supervisory experience
  • ISO:9001/ISO:13485 experience.
