Our chemistry helps relieve symptoms in millions of people each year. Johnson Matthey develops Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients for many important, life changing drugs. We employ highly complex chemistry to prepare molecules to very specific standards, then design advanced manufacturing methods to produce them at the scale that our pharmaceutical customers need.

Role:

We are looking for an EHS Manager for the Johnson Matthey Health UK site in Cambridge. The EHS Manager will be responsible for deploying EHS requirements, creating a mature EHS culture and promoting a safe and healthy environment for our employees. The EHS Manager will provide technical expertise and advise management on compliance with EHS legal requirements as well as Johnson Matthey Group EHS standards and policies. 

They will promote EHS in day to day activities as well as wider initiatives with all employees, in line with the Johnson Matthey value of ‘Protecting people and the planet’. 

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead all areas of EHS management across the site, defining the required Safety culture and influencing teams to deploy and prioritise EHS requirements 
  • Develop the workforce to defined EHS competencies, delivering EHS training and coaching as required by the business 
  • Lead internal and external EHS audits, and participate in the site EHS inspections and tours 
  • Establish and lead site Safety Committees to cultivate a culture of EHS ownership at the site 
  • Maintain and improve handling of chemicals and APIs on site eg. COSHH, risk assessment 
  • Identify applicable EHS legislation and advise management on compliance 
  • Develop and maintain EHS Management systems (certified systems such as ISO 14001 where required)
  • Assist in Accident investigations, ensuring appropriate root cause analysis is carried out and improvement actions recorded
  • Ensure the site has a clear EHS Annual Improvement Plan 
  • Ensure Environmental aspect and impact analysis has been carried out with significant impacts identified and control measures agreed

Are you the ideal candidate?  

You will have:

  • Degree qualification in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Engineering, or Degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering plus a post graduate qualification in EHS 
  • EHS Experience in an industrial or research environment, pharmaceutical or chemical company
  • Working knowledge of the applicable international, national & local EHS Standards and legislation
  • Experience in working effectively in complex Matrix organisations
  • Significant experience in building and maintaining positive relationships internally and externally to the organisation 
  • Recognised Safety Qualification such as NEBOSH, BOHS degree or IOSH Membership (desirable)
