Applications Engineer

Spectral Edge is a specialist in image processing and computational photography. The company uses patented algorithms in combination with state of the art machine learning techniques to solve challenging image processing problems, including multi spectral fusion and multi sensor registration among others.  

We are growing fast and are now looking for an applications engineer to work with our technical team and our customers to implement our technology in a way that effectively accomplishes client objectives.  This role offers an excellent opportunity for an engineer to combine their hands-on coding skills and existing customer facing support experience to develop their career in this field. The position is office based in Cambridge, but the individual will be required to travel to, and work at, customer sites worldwide, sometimes at short notice.

The key duties are:

·       Implementation of Spectral Edge technology on customer platforms

·       Provide front-line support for customers by working with them to integrate Spectral Edge technology

·       Assist customers with troubleshooting by analysing problems in installed technology

·       Develop test harnesses for validation and bug fixing at integration for both Spectral Edge and customers’ code

·       Prepare customer-focussed documentation including data sheets, programming guides and customer presentations

·       Work with R and D team to assist in the specification of product definition and requirements

·       Design demonstrations

·       Establish peer to peer relationships with engineers in SE tech team and advocate for customers internally

 

The key skills are:

·       Solid experience as a software developer

·       Experience of working with customers either as an applications engineer or in a pre- or post-sales technical support role across different  cultures and multiple locations

·       Experience of real-time programming in embedded C, C++ and knowledge of Android/Linux programming

·       Strong customer service and communication skills

·       Highly organised and able to work with minimum supervision

·       knowledge of hardware platforms

·       Knowledge and experience of camera image processing pipelines

·       Good mathematical background to enable understanding of our algorithms, with minimum first degree in a mathematical, scientific or technology subject

 

The following additional skills would be an advantage:

·      Experience of Software development for GPUs using languages such as OpenGL/CL, CUDA

·      Driver development for cameras and sensors on Linux platforms

·      Knowledge of image processing algorithms, e.g de-noising or image registration algorithms

·      Video and photo compression and codec technology, e.g. H.264, HEVC, JPEG

 

This is a full-time position based in Cambridge with worldwide travel
