The Royal Society of Chemistry seeks a Senior Programme Manager, Inclusion and Diversity to join us on a permanent full-time (35-hour week) basis, in Cambridge, with UK and international travel.

We are committed to promoting diversity in the chemical sciences. We recognise the importance of valuing all members of our community; we believe that for the chemical sciences to prosper, they must attract, develop and retain a diverse community of talented people. As a professional and membership body, we have the responsibility to shape the chemical sciences for the benefit of the wider community to ensure diversity in the chemical sciences now and in the future.

Our Inclusion and Diversity team drives initiatives and sets policies that support the development of a more diverse and inclusive chemistry community. Partnerships with key organisations across STEM subjects and collaboration with academia and industry are central to delivering our work.

As our Senior Programme Manager, Inclusion and Diversity, you will be our in-house expert on key diversity issues facing the chemical sciences. Your familiarity with relevant data, reports and policy and will play a crucial role in the delivery and further development of our inclusion and diversity strategy.

Leading on projects and working with other teams throughout the organisation, including education and publishing, you will embed diversity in all our external work. You will also work with our Inclusion and Diversity committee and with two of our executive advisory panels to deliver the highest impact to our community, with budget responsibility.

  • PhD in chemistry or related sciences (or equivalent).
  • Proven track record of developing and leading significant I&D initiatives in STEM communities.
  • Strong understanding of the challenges facing STEM academic and industry sectors.
  • Experience of working in a scientific organisation, institution, company or university environment.
  • Network of contacts within the inclusion and diversity community.
  • Experience in successful management and delivering complex projects, including report writing and disseminating.
  • Demonstrable experience of facilitating workshops and managing of events.
  • Demonstrable experience of financial planning and budget management.
  • Highly collaborative, able to work with colleagues in a wide variety of contexts, delivering results that take into account the widest needs of the organisation.
  • Ability to learn quickly and manage a diverse, rapidly changing portfolio.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and analytical skills.
  • Ability to interact effectively with and influence people at a range of levels.
  • Ability to balance and prioritise across multiple projects, tasks and deadline.
