Facilities Assistant - Maintenance

The Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) seeks a permanent full-time Facilities Assistant to join us, based at our Cambridge Science Park site. The role is to support the Facilities Manager in ensuring the smooth running of both Royal Society of Chemistry buildings in the UK. They will work as part of a Facilities team whose aim is to create and maintain the optimum working environment in which RSC staff can operate comfortably, efficiently and effectively.

The Cambridge site accommodates around 500 staff and various contractors. Your working hours will be 10:00 – 18:00, plus flexible working to accommodate necessary out of hours work or providing additional service to the Postroom.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Responsible for the regular interfacing between maintenance contractors and subcontractors
  • Supervision of contractors and subcontractors whilst on site including responsibility for Health and Safety requirements
  • Support in the delivery of special projects relating to building operations
  • Daily monitoring of the building to diagnose and identify maintenance related issues
  • Diagnose, assess and carry out a wide range of maintenance tasks
  • Complete regular inspections and audits in line with PPM planner
  • Ensure continuous improvement and quality of Facilities services
  • Provision of porterage services when required
  • Ensure that the car park and building grounds are appropriately managed and maintained
  • Keep the TGH offices in a high standard of repair, decoration and tidiness.
  • Responsible for meeting room arrangements and setting up
  • Support and cover to Reception and Post Room when required

We are looking for:

Essential:

  • Experience in maintenance management, with a background in the technical side of both Mechanical & Electrical
  • Experience in buildings related Health and Safety application
  • Ability to take initiative and proactively diagnose and rectify maintenance issues
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with colleagues and contractors.
  • Basic Microsoft Office skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Good problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Motivated and enthusiastic team player
  • Organisational, planning and prioritisation skills
  • Excellent customer focus.
  • Experience of managining longer term maintenance and building/ refurbishment projects

Desirable

  • Technical qualifications either mechanical or electrical or working towards achieving those qualifications
  • Knowledge of fire evacuations, emergency procedures and responding to first aid requests.
  • Knowledge/experience of setting and working to budgets.
