The Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) seeks a Community Manager (SMEs) on a permanent full-time (35-hour week) basis. 

You can be based at our Cambridge Science Park office or home-based within the UK, if you are able to travel to our Cambridge office.

 

The Community Manager (SMEs) is an outward-looking role, suited to somebody who enjoys developing and growing business communities and building relationships.

 

You will join a friendly, open and entrepreneurial team passionately supporting science, collaborations and skills in the chemistry-based industries. The role reports to the Senior Manager – Industry, and is part community management, part project management.

 

As Community Manager (SMEs) you will develop a bird’s eye view of the needs, gaps, and opportunities for companies, and be the voice for hundreds of high potential SMEs. As a result of the excellent understanding of our companies, the role holder will play a crucial role in facilitating interactions between businesses and help inform future initiatives to increase the impact, visibility and support for our chemistry-based SMEs.

Essential knowledge and skills:  

  • Experience working in one or more chemistry-based industries, or experience working with business communities.
  • Educated to degree-level or higher, in chemical sciences or other science subject.
  • Knowledge and ability to talk confidently and passionately about topics relating to business and technology to a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Understanding of the needs of small companies and the environment, they operate in.
  • Demonstrable relationship management and influencing skills.
  • Strong communicator, written and oral, able to produce clear, concise and accurate documents, presentations, blogs.
  • Highly organised, objective and deadline-orientated with a clear ability to manage and prioritise a workload in order to meet tight deadlines
  • A team player, who thrives in fast paced and changing environment.
  • Initiative and ability to develop new ideas and approaches.
  • Strong IT skills.
  • Excellent project and financial management skills.

Desirable knowledge and skills:

 

  • Community management experience.
  • Experience of using CRM systems.
  • Experience organising events, workshops, roundtables.
