Chemists’ Community Fund Manager

  • Closing date 10 Apr 2018
  • Type Full-time
  • Duration Permanent

The Royal Society of Chemistry seeks a Chemists’ Community Fund Manager to join us on a permanent full-time (35-hour week) basis. You will be based at our Cambridge Science Park office, with occasional UK travel. We could accommodate slightly earlier or later start/finish times and some working from home and/or from our London office, subject to business needs.

The Chemists’ Community Fund (CCF) is the working name of the Benevolent Fund of the Royal Society of Chemistry. We offer financial, practical and emotional support to individual members and their dependents. It is a linked charity to the Royal Society of Chemistry, and as such, we have beneficiaries at all career stages around the world.

The CCF is going through significant and exciting developments to reach more people, to widen our charitable activities and be more relevant and accessible to current and potential beneficiaries. The Fund’s primary purpose is the prevention and relief of poverty and we deliver advice and guidance, provide grants, and partner with a range of services, so that those in need get the most appropriate assistance.

As Chemists’ Community Fund Manager, you will lead a small, passionate team to further these developments, and explore wider charitable initiatives to support our community.

Members helping members is at the heart of the Fund, which was set up nearly 100 years ago; as such, you will be responsible for developing the role of our member volunteers. You will be secretary to our Benevolent Fund Grants Committee, maintaining overall governance of the Fund. You will ensure that the Fund delivers appropriate charitable support, and that we remain relevant to the modern challenges facing our society.

We are looking for:

Essential:

  • Proven management experience, ideally in a benevolent fund or other grant-awarding charity.
  • Specialist knowledge in charity sector and/or welfare support.
  • Demonstrable experience of casework and/or managing sensitive personal information.
  • Experience of governance and decision-making in a charitable organisation, or equivalent.
  • Experience of developing, implementing and delivering new services for individuals.
  • Able to build and use networks to share specialist knowledge and develop collaborations.
  • Excellent communications and project management skills.
  • Able to demonstrate tact and diplomacy in sensitive situations.
  • An ability to relate to people at all levels.

Desirable:

  • Experience of working with and/or managing volunteers is highly desirable.
  • Experience of providing board/committee secretariat support is highly desirable.
  • A degree in relevant subject, or equivalent training and qualifications.

At the Royal Society of Chemistry, we will reward your contribution with excellent benefits
