Would you like create and commission high quality resources to support teachers?

 

The Royal Society of Chemistry has an opportunity for an Assistant Editor, Teaching Resources to join us on a full-time (35-hour week) temporary basis for eighteen months. You will be based at our Cambridge Science Park office (free onsite parking and close to the guided busway and Cambridge North train station), with some travel expected for relevant meetings, events and conferences. Flexible start/finish times (e.g. 07:30 to 15:30 or 09:30 to 17:30) and occasional working from home are also available, subject to needs.

The goal of our Education Publishing team is to provide relevant and useful advice, resources, and practical support to educators and their students in schools, colleges and universities and we are expanding our teaching resources publication programme.

 

As Assistant Editor for teaching resources you will work with our Commissioning Editor to plan and deliver high quality online content to fill gaps in our current bank of teaching resources, reflecting the needs and expectations of our key audiences. This includes commissioning and editing content, and coordinating with freelance authors, editors, and partner organisations.

 

We are looking for:  

 

Required: 

 

  • Proven experience of preparing resources for teaching.
  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • Demonstrable time management skills and experience of meeting deadlines.
  • Highly motivated, adaptable and able to work with relatively little supervision.
  • A degree-level qualification.  

Desirable: 

 

  • Strong understanding of the education landscape in the UK and Republic of Ireland.
  • Proven experience of writing and/or editing content for the web.
  • Working knowledge of science, ideally to degree level.
  • Understanding of digital publishing systems and processes.
  • Experience of working with freelance contributors or contractors.
  • Experience of managing a commercial portfolio.
