Byte Night 2011

  • Date 7 Oct 2011 - 8 Oct 2011

Byte Night, the IT industry’s sleep out event which raises money for Action for Children is once again pledging its support for the fight against youth homelessness and social deprivation.

Action for Children is asking the generous IT folks of Cambridge to pack up their sleeping bags and spend a night under the stars and help raise money to tackle youth homelessness. The national event is now in its fourteenth year, with Cambridge joining the list of regional sleep outs for the second time. Last year Cambridge saw over 60 sleepers raise a magnificent £45,000.

Raising much needed funds for Action for Children’s projects around the country, Byte Night is now a staple event in the IT calendar, with the link between the technology sector and the charity’s valuable work growing increasingly relevant. It goes without saying that young people rely increasingly on technology – not only to communicate, but also in education, personal development and career prospects. Taking part in Byte Night highlights the fact that many young people have no access to the everyday technologies that we take for granted. The millions of pounds raised so far have helped Action for Children support some of the UK’s most neglected  and vulnerable youngsters – providing them with secure accommodation, education and training, and ending the cycle of deprivation that so many get trapped in.
