We have an exciting opportunity to work within our Strategic Partnerships team supporting projects in Africa, including the Pan-Africa Chemistry Network and our ongoing partnership with GSK to enhance analytical science skills across Africa. This fixed-term opportunity will allow the successful candidate to manage our network of Hub co-ordinators located in Kenya, Ethiopia, Ghana and Nigeria, and support the development and delivery of our flagship activities. Using your excellent interpersonal skills you will be supporting relationships between the Royal Society of Chemistry and organizations concerned with the promotion and funding of the chemical sciences in Africa, including our partnership with Federation of African Societies of Chemistry (FASC).

 

The role will be based in our Cambridge office and some international travel will be required.

 

Your responsibilities will focus on:

  • Supporting the Royal Society of Chemistry’s Projects in Africa, including the Pan-Africa Chemistry Network and our ongoing partnership with GSK to enhance analytical science skills across Africa.
  • Managing our network of Pan-Africa Chemistry Network Hubs.
  • Supporting the development and delivery of international activities, workshops, conferences and networks within Africa, consistent with the RSC’s strategic priorities including the PACN Congress and Annual dinner
  • Supporting relationships between the Royal Society of Chemistry and organizations concerned with the promotion and funding of the chemical sciences in Africa, including our partnership with Federation of African Societies of Chemistry (FASC) and the Royal Society.
  • Managing project budgets and timelines, where appropriate, monitoring delivery against these parameters.
  • To co-ordinate communication of activities in Africa internally and externally via all Royal Society of Chemistry communication channels

 

We are looking for:

  • Experience within an international science organization would be an advantage.
  • Demonstrable team-working skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills (verbal, written, presentational) and a customer-focused approach are essential.
  • The ability to make appropriate decisions and take effective action, if necessary under time-pressure.
  • Ability to act flexibly, decisively and diplomatically under all circumstances.
  • An appreciation of the main issues in international science is desirable.
  • Good project, event management, budget and time-management skills.
  • Good IT skills, including the ability to develop and communicate information using a variety of web and social media vehicles.
  • A degree in a relevant subject, or equivalent training and qualifications
