This is a unique opportunity to join a dynamic, team-oriented environment with a focus on developing novel, high-quality assays for molecular biology. The Product Development Associate will join the Vitrolife Genomics team based on the Cambridge Science Park, Cambridge, UK.

 

The position

After comprehensive training, the successful applicant will provide cross-project product development support by executing laboratory protocols and performing data analysis under the direction of a supervisor. In addition, the Product Development Associate shall be responsible for maintaining the Genomics laboratory in accordance with Quality procedures.

This role offers an opportunity to gain experience in a range of scientific skills within product development, with exposure to multiple technologies and applications. The ideal candidate will have an interest in the field of single-cell genomics and experience with next generation sequencing platforms.

 

Responsibilities

  • Design and execute laboratory protocols and perform data analysis under the direction of a supervisor.
  • Excellent record-keeping and documentation of results, with presentation at internal team meetings.
  • Follow written protocols for the operation and maintenance of analytical instruments necessary for successful completion of project work.
  • Apply scientific principles to enable intelligent troubleshooting.
  • Interact with other Research and Development teams within the organisation.
  • Equipment calibration and maintenance.
  • Consumables inventory management.
  • Documentation in accordance with Quality procedures.

 

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in molecular biology, genetics, chemistry, biochemistry or related field.
  • 2+ years lab experience in molecular biology or genetics is preferred, ideally with hands-on experience with next generation sequencing and/or SNP microarrays.
  • Proficiency with common molecular biology bench techniques used for DNA sample preparation from single-cells (PCR and whole genome amplification, DNA purification and quantitation).
  • Experience in product development processes preferred, but not essential.
  • Outstanding problem solving, interpersonal skills and organisational skills.
  • Proficient in standard computer skills.
  • Detail-oriented, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Clear vision of and commitment to developing high-quality tools.
