FlexEnable is a world leader in flexible electronics whose technology enables a wide range of applications in display, AR/VR optics, and other plastic liquid crystal systems.  The company provides materials, technology, and services to its growing list of customers, enabling new product paradigms and use cases for a range of applications across consumer electronics, automotive, and healthcare.  We are currently expanding the team to cater to the growing demand for electrically tunable lenses and shutters.

The Role

FlexEnable is seeking an experienced Optical Design Engineer with a strong background in lens design and optical modelling. The role will involve a combination of computer modelling and practical hands-on lab work, working with other inquisitive, innovative and exceptional engineers. The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate the potential to make a strong and high energy contribution to the company.

The role will incorporate a wide range of activities and responsibilities across optical design and modelling, metrology and analysis of samples made in our onsite cleanroom, failure analysis and feedback into new designs.  The role will require travel within the UK and abroad to meet with business partners and customers. 

The Candidate

Qualifications

·        The position will require an MSc or higher in physics, maths or relevant engineering discipline.

Experience that will be utilised in the role

·        Excellent understanding of optics

·        Deep understanding of birefringence and polarisation

·        Adept at using modelling tools to simulate and design components such as; Zemax, Lumerical, DIMOS, Techwiz.

·        An understanding of liquid crystals an advantage

·        Ability to independently set up, use and report on interferometry experiments.

·        Programming experience

·        Strong problem solving skills, the ability to approach tasks in a structured manner and the tenacity to resolve on-going technical issues.

·        Excellent interpersonal skill, including ability to communicate effectively at all levels.

·        Experience of working as part of project team, alongside multiple stakeholders and customers
