The Royal Society of Chemistry has a full-time, permanent Managing Editor position available within our Journals team, based in Cambridge. This is an opportunity to further your career in STM publishing with the world’s leading chemistry community, advancing excellence in the chemical sciences.
What you will be doing:
This is a key strategic role leading the editorial development of RSC Advances, the world’s largest open access chemistry journal.
Working with the Executive Editor, you will lead the strategic development of RSC Advances in line with the wider Royal Society of Chemistry Publishing strategy, in terms of quality, market share, global reputation and customer service. You will build positive and collaborative working relationships with key external stakeholders (Editorial board members, associate editors,) and key internal stakeholders (Production team, Marketing, Sales). You will be responsible for recruitment and performance management of Editorial Board members, Associate Editors and members of the RSC Advances Reviewer Panel. You will represent RSC Advances at national and international conferences to ensure the best authorship and geographic diversity. You will develop marketing plans to maximise the market profile of RSC Advances.
What we are looking for:
Essential:
- Experience in STM journal publishing, including commissioning; an excellent understanding of the peer review process, editorial policy and marketing.
- A good honours degree in science (chemical sciences preferred).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Well-developed influencing and negotiating skills.
- Ability to lead and motivate individuals.
- Good organisational and time-management skills are required, together with the ability to work under pressure and to meet deadlines.
- Willingness to travel nationally and internationally.
- Up-to-date knowledge of and passion for the chemical sciences.
- An understanding of the open access landscape.
Desirable:
- Previous experience with Editorial Boards.
- Contacts within the relevant communities.
