Job Purpose/Summary:
Laboratory/Facilities/Stores Assistant will support the Facilities & Laboratory Coordinator and support functions associated with the research and development laboratories.
This will be a full-time position which would encompass a variety of duties. This would include ensuring that our laboratories are well stocked with consumables for our busy scientists; making media, buffers, agar plates and antibiotics following our in-house recipes, full training will be given. An eye for accuracy and good record keeping would also be required.
Assisting with doing our weekly stores ordering online and stocking our stores on delivery of goods.
Roles and responsibilities:
RECEIVING/STOCK
1. Transport and distribute materials to labs, scientists, or stores.
2. Stocking labs with consumables - maintain accurate inventory levels
3. Put consumable deliveries away in stores.
4. Compliance with Safety Guidelines
5. Observe safe chemical handling practices
6. Follow all Agenus documentation practices.
7. Assisting with the weekly stores ordering.
LABORATORY OPERATIONS
1. Making media and plates
2. Washing up and autoclaving
3. Freezer cleaning/brushing out, remove ice build up
4. Assist with laboratory cleaning
5. Waste removal
6. Gas deliveries and delivering gases to lab
FACILITIES AND LABORATORY ADMIN
1. Update spreadsheets
2. To upload certificates and maintenance sheets into the RAM (Blue Mountain System)
3. Make labels for hazardous waste bins
4. Assist with the labeling of equipment for RAM system.
5. Building Exterior
*Sweep up leaves etc
*Salt pathways in winter
*Sweep our external buildings.
E H & S
1. Ensuring that safety spectacle containers in the lab are full.
2. Monthly Spill Kit checks and replenishing if necessary.
3. Monthly First Aid kit checks and replenishing if necessary
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
• Microsoft Office proficiency (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) required
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Able to lift/move up to 50 pounds
• Able to perform work assignments which may include lifting, bending, stooping, sitting, leaning, etc.
Preferred Skills:
• Strong organization and time management skills as well as the ability to multitask.
• Able to build relationships with scientific staff of all levels.
• Able to take direction and follow through
