FlexEnable’s James Harding wins the Ben Sturgeon Award

FlexEnable's James Harding has been honoured with the prestigious UK & Ireland Society for Information Display's Ben Sturgeon Award.

Dr James Harding, Display Systems Manager at FlexEnable, received the award in recognition of his outstanding contributions to flexible Organic LCD (OLCD) technology.  The award, established in conjunction with the British Liquid Crystal Society, is made annually to a scientist or engineer under 40 whose work has made a significant contribution to the displays field over the past 10 years.

OLCD is made possible because of the very low processing temperature (100°C) of FlexEnable’s OTFT technology, allowing LCD displays to be built directly onto a plastic sheet known as TAC film. TAC is an optically ideal film to replace glass, is very low cost, and is already in the display manufacturing supply chain as a common carrier for polarizers. This approach allows OLCD to be manufactured on existing TFTLCD production lines and scaled to large area, and is currently being transferred to mass production in China for applications including consumer electronics, automotive and digital signage, representing an $80Bn addressable market.

James accepted the Ben Sturgeon award at the 28th November meeting of the UK Society of Information Display at University College London, with a talk entitled “Flexible LCDs enabled by Organic TFTs”.
