Talent Manager

Work with a team determined to change the world.

Overview

Simprints builds identification systems for the "last mile" that integrate accurate, safe, and robust biometric technology into existing mobile tools. We are working at the exciting interface of biometrics, technology and international development. Our goal is to radically disrupt the inaccurate way we currently track and deliver essential services, instead building a world where every person—not guesswork—counts in the fight against poverty.

We are looking for a Talent Manager who is passionate about building and developing exceptional teams, and with the experience and ambition to help drive forward the talent operations across Simprints. You are forward-thinking, deeply collaborative, a quick learner, and thrive in a fast-paced, highly autonomous startup environment. You will collaborate closely with the Head of Talent and others across the team to make world class talent operations central to our strategy. With a deep  focus on hiring, from one day to the next you might be head hunting the best engineers, refining our hiring approach to optimise the candidate experience, or supporting the launch of a new office in East Africa.. This is not your typical HR or recruitment role. Talent is at the heart of everything we do at Simprints, and we’re looking for a progressive and passionate individual to enable a world-class approach to talent operations, where Every Person Counts.

What are your responsibilities?

Our talent strategy has three key pillars: Recruit; Develop; Retain, which are all informed by a robust approach to analytics. This role has a deep focus on the first pillar, and covers all aspects of bringing awesome new talent in to Simprints.

Key responsibilities for this role will include:

  • Working closely with team leaders to align our talent forecasting with the strategic aims of Simprints

  • Sourcing, landing, and onboarding the best candidates for a team that needs to grow from 25 to 40 globally in the next twelve months, and more beyond that.

  • Ensuring we are utilising the right channels, continuously refining our a best-in-class hiring machine, and helping land great candidates that most teams could not reach.

As an integral member of the talent operations team, the Talent Manager may also spearhead projects relating to the following areas:

  • Develop: Collaborate with our Head of Talent to continually refine Simprints’ professional development program, including mentoring, workshops, feedback sessions, and career development reviews. Figure out how to build smart, raw, and talented individuals into skilled professionals.

  • Retain: Maintain a strong team culture based on our values, and enhance our people-processes to make working at Simprints an amazing experience, especially during our exciting scale-up phase. Care deeply about the employee journey, and how we can make it even better. Think like a designer and an innovator, not a traditional HR rep.

  • Analyse: Build a robust framework of talent analytics that track the employee-experience and enable us to make timely data-driven decisions to ensure Simprints continues to be an awesome place to work.

What skills do you need?

Technical Skills:

  • Excellent written and verbal communications. We work with a diverse range of team members from all over the world, and you need to be able to clearly communicate across functions, disciplines, and backgrounds.

  • Project management. Our goals for talent operations are ambitious. To achieve them, we need to be able to design, structure, and implement exciting initiatives quickly. You understand time is our most valuable resource, and can manage it strategically to achieve maximum impact for Simprints, and as a consequence improve the lives of our beneficiaries.

  • Experience. Time with (forward-thinking) HR functions is a plus, but not a requirement. We are looking for a track record of grit and achievement, and a passion for people. An academic background in organisational development and/or social psychology would be advantageous.

Human Skills:

  • High prioritisation and organisational skills. You understand time is our most valuable resource, and can manage it strategically to achieve maximum impact for our beneficiaries.

  • Communications. You are an outward looking, confident communicator, in writing and verbal form, using words and numbers to illustrate key arguments. You have the ability to appropriately adapt your message to your audience, listen patiently, and ask thoughtful questions.

  • Strategic mindset. You are sharp, with an ability to bring your own perspective to rigorously solve problems, emphasising the importance of principles over process.

  • Integrity. You have a strong moral grounding and will not compromise on values under any circumstances.

  • Initiative. You proactively find challenges and offer creative ways to address them. You can juggle several things at the same time, switch between tasks, and jump on whatever fire is burning highest.

  • Resilience. You are persistent and don’t allow setbacks to drag you down. Instead, you extract key learnings, turn them into opportunities for growth, and move on quickly.

  • Teamwork. You are independent and reliable, but also quick to ask for and extend help to others. You thoroughly enjoy working in a small, agile, fast-paced team.

  • Empathy. You can listen closely to others, and care deeply about their experiences.

  • Learning. You love learning new things and can pick up new tools quickly.

  • Passion. If building exceptional teams to fight poverty sounds exciting, we want to meet you.

Why Simprints?

Life is short. We believe work should be awesome, meaningful, and fun. At Simprints, we’re taking on global development’s biggest challenges, powered by an amazing culture and incredible people. Work with us, and you will grow faster, learn more, and take on greater responsibilities than at nearly any other job.

  • Work that matters. No matter what role you take, from writing code to running field tests, you’re playing a crucial part in improving lives in the poorest parts of the world.

  • Massive, interesting challenges. We’re taking on the biometrics industry to build open-source, accessible tools for frontline mobile operators. We don’t do “boring”.

  • Learn like it’s your job. Because here at Simprints, it is. Learning objectives, external mentors, and a significant dedicated education budget you can use for any courses, trips, or projects that power your personal and professional development.

  • Work flexible hours. More efficient late at night? Better before the sun rises? That’s fine by us. We are looking for people who get the job done, not people who work between 9am and 5pm.

  • Unlimited paid time off.

  • Fun, fast-paced Scrum culture.

  • Quarterly ‘Lego’ days where you can work on any project you want.

  • Free gym memberships and additional wellness budget.

  • Free healthy breakfast and snacks.

  • Coolest office in Cambridge (the Bradfield Centre - think ‘mini-Google’)
