About the role
We are looking for a talented and enthusiastic Software Engineer with web development background in an e-commerce environment. You will be working as part of a team, delivering cutting edge functionality to our public Website.
We may offer this opportunity at either Associate Software Engineer or Software Engineer level depending on your experience.
You will be based at our Headquarters on Milton Science Park in Cambridge, UK. Please note in January 2019 our HQ is moving to brand new facilities on the Biomedical Campus, South of Cambridge.

Our technical architecture includes cloud based ERP solutions alongside market differentiating bespoke applications delivering increased value to every area of Abcam’s business. Our bespoke applications are predominantly written in C# MVC and ColdFusion with an MS SQL backend.

Roles & responsibilities:
- You will work alongside other software engineer teams and QAs to deliver high quality software solutions
- You will work alongside business analyst and product owner to fully understand the requirements.
- To gain an understanding of business processes across areas of the company and apply that knowledge to technical problems as they arise
About you
You have a genuine passion for software development and willingness to tackle a broad array of challenges. You also have excellent problem solving and analytical skills and a desire to solve complex technical challenges. You will need to be an excellent communicator and team player with a positive “can do” attitude.
Experience of the following is essential:
- C#, MVC, ASP.NET.
- Relational Databases, ideally MS SQL.
- JavaScript, CSS and HTML.
- Unit / integration / regression testing and test-driven development, ideally NUnit.
Experience of the following is desirable:
- ColdFusion or Java.
- Source control systems, ideally GIT.
- ORMs, ideally NHibernate.
- NoSQL, ideally MongoDB and Solr.
- Performance testing, ideally JMeter.
- AGILE, SCRUM.
- Continuous integration and deployment of software, ideally Octopus or Teamcity.
- PowerShell
- Web API
- SOA
- Load balancing / CDN / IIS
- System integration
