Cambridge Consultants is a world-class supplier of innovative product development engineering and technology consulting. The Safety, Health & Environment department delivers and promotes safe working practices across the company. We are responsible for supporting and advising our staff who work in a wide range of fields including medical technology, wireless communications, consumer, industrial, energy and defence.

Role Description

The SHE Advisor will provide a high standard of support to our technical and office staff. You will work with the current SHE Team to implement the SHE systems and procedures. You will promote a culture of safe working practices across the organisation, as well as having the appropriate people skills to ensure that staff members are supported. Strong communication skills are key to ensure the respect and buy-in of support, project, laboratory and administration staff alike.

You will be hands-on and have the ability to demonstrate a flair for pragmatic and realistic solutions, by using your breadth of experience across a diverse range of issues. This is a UK based role in Cambridge. However, support to the offices in the US and Singapore will be required.

Responsibilities

  • Support the development and maintenance of the current health and safety management system
  • Supporting the SHE manager to ensure compliance with all current legislation, codes of practice and relevant standards
  • Involvement in scientific laboratory safety matters and providing advice on risk assessments and safe working practices
  • Assisting with maintaining COSHH compliance and advising on COSHH risk assessments
  • Provision of pragmatic and realistic general SHE advice, guidance, coaching and training to managers, staff and contractors
  • Provision of pragmatic and realistic project related SHE advice, including project SHE risk assessments, travel and off-site working
  • Involvement in the generation of and development of risk assessments and safe systems of work
  • Investigation of near misses and adverse events with the SHE manager
  • Involvement in internal and external site inspections and audits and implementation of corrective actions
  • Involvement in Emergency Response Coordination and Emergency Preparedness
  • Supporting the SHE manager with occupational health matters
  • Providing safety training and contributing to safety meetings
  • Supporting activities to ensure environmental aspects and impacts meet legislative requirements
  • Supporting the SHE manager in the application of the environmental management systems, including recording keeping, documentation, and operational matters

What you can bring

  • You will have a NEBOSH Certificate
  • Experience of Health and Safety Management Systems
  • A breadth of Health and Safety knowledge
  • Be a team player, and be adaptable

The following are not required, but any experience in these areas would be advantageous:

  • Experience of practical working in a scientific laboratory environment
  • Experience of biological safety and human tissue work
  • Experience of laser, ionizing radiation, and chemical safety
  • NEBOSH Diploma
  • Membership of IOSH
