Senior Programme Manager, Science

The Royal Society of Chemistry seeks a Senior Programme Manager, Science, to join us on a permanent full-time (35-hour week) basis. You will be based at our Cambridge Science Park office, with UK and also some international travel and will also have budget responsibility.

We also support over 300 small and medium sized companies in the chemical sciences and are a powerful advocate for the chemical sciences at the government level influencing science, education and innovation policy. 

As our Senior Programme Manager, you will play a crucial role in supporting our Science Divisions and Heads of Chemistry UK and connecting these key networks with one another and with RSC programmes, building relationships within the research community and wider research and innovation ecosystem.  You will lead a small team of programme managers and an executive, to ensure that we engage and enable the research community, providing high quality, strategic and operational support and delivering maximum impact for the chemical sciences community.

We are looking for:    

 

  • PhD (or similar) in chemistry or other related sciences or equivalent experience
  • Proven management, project management and leadership skills
  • Experience working in a scientific organisation, company, university or in a government setting
  • Understanding of the factors currently influencing the research and innovation environment and the evolving issues for and needs of the research and innovation community
  • Awareness of developments in open science and innovation
  • Network of scientific contacts within the chemical sciences community or evidence of ability to develop such networks
  • Experience of facilitating workshops and organising scientific meetings
  • Ability to make decisions, building consensus where appropriate
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences, using a range of written and oral communication channels
  • Ability to interact effectively with and influence people at a range of levels and in a range of sectors
  • Experience of working in a matrix environment
  • Ability to balance and prioritise across multiple projects, tasks and deadlines  
  • Initiative and ability to develop new ideas and approaches
