The Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) has an opportunity for a Senior Policy Advisor for Research Landscape and Economy to join us on a permanent basis.
This is an exciting opportunity to lead and work on topical policy issues and commission cutting-edge policy research to connect the world of science and advance chemical knowledge for a better future.
As a Senior Policy Advisor for Research Landscape and Economy for the RSC, you will influence public policy relating to the research environment for the chemical sciences in research and industry, including research funding, connections between research, innovation and skills; science culture; international collaboration in science; the role of research in enabling economic growth and the contribution of the chemical sciences. Your contribution will enable chemical scientists to tackle global challenges and benefit humanity.
You will work in collaboration with colleagues who lead programmes to support research across diverse subfields of the chemical sciences and a range of colleagues across the RSC. A key part of the role is developing relationships and partnerships with external stakeholders that share our commitment to ensuring that the UK is the best place in the world for research and innovation.
Our science policy activities cover issues that affect chemistry research and innovation and areas such as regulation and environment where it is crucial that policy is informed by scientific evidence.
We are looking for someone who understands how the UK Government, Funding Bodies and other key decision-makers develop policies affecting science and the practice of chemistry.
The Royal Society of Chemistry will support your development and reward your contribution with competitive benefits, including excellent training, employee empowerment and the chance to make a positive difference to society.
This opportunity is available on a full-time or potentially part-time basis if role requirements can be met. If you want to apply on a part-time basis, please include in your application the days and hours you are available to regularly work each week, so this can also be considered. The contractual base for this role is our Cambridge or London office, however we are about to enter a period of piloting hybrid working, and you may be able to work from a location other than this, as agreed with your line manager. Applicants should be aware that there is an expectation that employees will attend the offices as needed for their role, and that permanent working arrangements away from the office may not be agreed in the future. The role will involve UK travel, often, but not only to London and some evening and very occasional weekend work.
If you are an experienced, excellent communicator who quickly grasps the big picture and the detail of a range of science policy issues affecting chemistry and can respond to new problems by effectively collaborating with others to solve them, we would love to hear from you.
