Nuclera is a next-generation DNA synthesis company creating solutions for the synthetic biology, enzyme engineering, and pharmaceutical industries. Our enzyme-mediated DNA synthesis platform will enable the rapid and cost-effective production of highly accurate, ultralong DNA products. We aim to be the key provider of long length variant DNA and genome libraries for protein, biological pathway, and ultimately genome-scale engineering.

We are seeking a microelectromechanical systems and microfluidics engineer with a strong research background and significant hands-on experience. You will join the growing team developing our enzymatic DNA synthesis technology, based in the Cambridge Science Park. To thrive in this role you should be comfortable working in a fastpaced environment, willing to take on responsibility, and excited to engage with the team to solve important challenges.

We are looking for a highly driven individual to:

  • Lead the design and development of microfluidic systems, considering customer requirements
  • Interface with biochemists and application scientists
  • Interface with external vendors for selection of components or procurement of custom parts
  • Identify, procure, or develop test equipment, instrumentation, or facilities for characterisation of microfluidic applications
  • Conduct experimental or computational studies to investigate characteristics and processing principles of potential microfluidic technology

To meet these challenges, the candidate will need to:

  • Demonstrate a strong technical understanding of microfluidic systems with at least four years experience (PhD or equivalent experience in a relevant field)
  • Be able to communicate results effectively both verbally and in written form
  • Work closely with a multidisciplinary scientific team

Experience/knowledge in the following areas would be advantageous:

  • Microfluidic packaging and integration solutions for fluidic interfaces; reagent storage and dispensing; biocompatibility; and thermal management
  • Microfluidics manufacturing technologies
  • 3D printing and experience with Solid Works or other equivalent CAD packages
  • Comsol or other equivalent package for simulations
