Gearset is one of the UK's fastest growing scale-ups, rocketing from 7 people in 2017 to over 140 today. We build a cutting-edge DevOps solution for the millions of developers building applications on Salesforce, the world's biggest enterprise PaaS.
What’s the opportunity?
We're looking for a Senior Data Engineer (our first!) to join the Internal Systems team within our Engineering organization and be part of building out the systems that power Gearset as we scale the company. You'll be the expert that will take charge of building out our internal data architecture to help deliver reporting information to our sales, finance, engineering and marketing teams.
Gearset has reams of data. So much data. We’re a SaaS platform and have great telemetry on how our users are using our software, our sales team was started by a software engineer so we take a very data driven approach, and our entire suite of backend business systems are cloud-native and well connected. As the scale of Gearset has grown, so too has the challenge of building robust data pipelines that scale to the volumes of data that flow through them, and generating insights from that data to help us make great business decisions.
As Gearset’s first Data Engineer, you will:
- Design our data warehousing systems and be empowered to make the key decisions around these systems
- Build out our data warehousing and ETL/ELT pipelines to help the company grow
- Work with developers across the business to collect data from various sources to feed into our data architecture.
- Have a view on what is right for the business for our data systems and provide expert guidance to the engineering team.
- Share your knowledge to help others get the most out of our data systems.
- Document new processes for others to learn from Shape the data that we use to build reports from, and empower others to use our data systems
You'll be a good fit if you:
- Have 5+ years of experience working with data warehousing
- Have experience working with cloud-native data warehouses and data pipelines
- Have an analytical approach to solving problems and how to structure complete systems
- Are able to work effectively in a team or independently as required
- Are self-motivated
Nice to haves:
- Experience with AWS technologies
- Experience with Amazon Redshift or a similar cloud data warehousing system
- Experience with Tableau, Lookr, or AWS QuickInsight
- Experience taking business requirements and converting them to technical specifications
A little about our salary, hours and benefits:
- Salary range between £55,000 and £70,000 depending on experience
- You'll work 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday
- We're all remote at the moment, but when safe to do so anticipate splitting your time between home and our Cambridge office
- Bupa health care for you and your family
- Life Insurance and Critical Illness cover
- Flexible working hours
- Free lunch when in the office
- Discounted gym membership, as well as many other wellness benefits
