How will people’s health be affected by chemicals regulation after Brexit? Why do talented women face so many barriers to career progression in academia? What is the future of scientific research publishing? How can we train enough skilled scientists to support a high-tech economy?
Answering these really important questions with impactful, inspirational words is just a part of our work to engage and motivate the chemists of today and for the future and show people how chemistry is improving the lives of people around the world.
We’re looking for an experienced, confident senior corporate communications executive to join our busy team for up to six months to provide shared parental leave cover. You’ll need to be able to hit the ground running to maintain continuity of support for our President, Immediate Past President, CEO and Deputy CEOs writing speeches, presentations, forewords and op-eds for a wide range of audiences including scientists, teachers, students, policymakers, journalists and our own members and staff.
The Royal Society of Chemistry is the UK’s professional body for chemical scientists, with a reputation for sharing high quality chemical knowledge through our international publishing. We have a trusted and influential voice on behalf of our science that we use to influence decision-makers and connect the chemical sciences to the wider world.
You’ll be involved in a broad range of communications activities, all aiming to contribute effectively towards achieving the core strategic goals of our organisation. In particular, you’ll be an exceptional speech and copywriter with experience of writing for senior executives and a proven ability to understand and match individual styles of speaking. You’ll know how to align brand and style with individual speaker’s personality and be able to work in a collaborative and persuasive way with people at all levels in order to deliver in a timely, effective way.
You’ll be expected to be flexible working between our offices at the Science Park in Cambridge and at Burlington House in London. You may need to occasionally work outside office hours and travel to venues where your work is being used to promote our organisation and celebrate our achievements to advance excellence in the chemical sciences.
In return for your specialist expertise and passion for promoting the positive impact of chemistry and science generally, we will ensure you have the support and tools to be successful in this temporary role.
Over 175 years we’ve promoted, supported and celebrated chemistry with our 55,000 members worldwide and become a successful not-for-profit organisation with over 550 staff. Come and join us as we shape the next 175 years, by applying today.
