About the role

As the team continues to grow, we are looking for an enthusiastic and passionate Scientist I to join our Purification & Conjugation Team, on a full-time permanent basis. 

 


You will predominately be based in the lab where you will be working closely with other Purification & Conjugation Technicians and Scientists. You will primarily focus on (but not limited to) the Purification processes carried out within the team. You will also be responsible for planning and performing routine purification techniques, to produce quality results and hit high throughput targets.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Carry out routine purification processes and deliver completed experiments in line with production schedules. Identify when specifications are missed and troubleshoot these situations. Track and review own and team’s experimental data; take an objective view to make sound business recommendations.
  • Prepare weekly schedules for routine purification processes and support the management of team workload. 
  • Show compliance with Quality policies, SOPs and Health and Safety procedures. 
  • Work independently/ alongside other teams on R&D/ process optimisation projects. Prepare associated project plans, design bespoke experiments and liaise with stakeholders to agree deadlines.
  • Support Technicians in their lab work, helping with troubleshooting and ensuring that all production work is carried out to high quality standards.
  • Supervise individuals during training providing technical, theoretical and practical information during the training process.
  • Keep stakeholders informed and up-to-date by sharing all relevant information and take part in cross team discussions. Including presenting data to stakeholders and influencing outcomes through actions.
  • Assist in the everyday running of the Purification and Conjugation Lab.

About you

You hold a Life Sciences degree with solid experience of the practical and theoretical aspects of some of the following techniques:

  • Antibody production techniques – supernatant/sera preparation, peptide affinity chromatography, Protein A/G purification, SEC
  • Use of chromatography systems

 

At Abcam we are all about collaboration and teamwork so you will need to be an enthusiastic team-player, with excellent communication skills as well as the ability to work independently when required.

 

The team is required to work to tight deadlines and therefore you must be able to work well under pressure and within fast-paced environment. You can also demonstrate good troubleshooting skills and fare confident in using MS-Office applications.

Ideally you also have experience in:

  • High-throughput automation
  • Purification polishing methods
  • Protein stability formulation studies, including lyophilisation
  • Working to ISO 9001 standards
