Industry Associate – Sustainable Polymers Initiative

  • Closing date 15 Aug 2021
  • Type Part-time
  • Duration Temporary

The Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) seeks an Industry Associate for our Sustainable Polymers Initiative. This outstanding opportunity is currently available on a part-time (21 hours per week) temporary basis for eighteen months and can be based at our Cambridge Science Park office, or home-based within the UK.

The RSC is a not-for-profit organisation whose mission is to help chemical sciences communities make the world a better place. We drive solutions to cross-sector industry challenges; we support SMEs working on high-impact chemistry innovations, especially those aiming to tackle some of the world’s most pressing problems; and we are a trusted and authoritative voice with Governments and policymakers for matters impacting chemical sciences businesses and innovation.

Following the recent publication of the report Polymers in liquid formulations - Opportunities for a sustainable future, we have launched the Sustainable PLFs initiative and convened a multisectoral industry Task Force to turn the recommendations of the report into action across the PLFs producing and using industries.

Polymers in liquid formulations are found in millions of household and industrial products and play a vital role in our society by improving food productivity, treating wastewater, protecting buildings, infrastructure and transport, as well as creating consumer products that promote health and wellbeing.

We are looking for an individual with the necessary expertise to influence at a senior level and support the Sustainable PLFs initiative. This role will suit someone looking to make a real impact on a vital sustainability issue, who enjoys influencing and also delivery.

We are looking for:

  • Industrial experience in one of the sectors producing or using polymers in liquid formulations and deep technical knowledge relating to polymers in liquid formulations.
  • Demonstrable experience in managing and influencing complex stakeholder networks, groups or committees of senior industry leaders.
  • Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills with the ability to quickly build strong professional connections at a variety of levels.
  • Strong organisation and facilitation skills, with excellent verbal and written communication, including public speaking skills.
  • Keen interest in sustainability and sustainable solutions.
  • Educated to degree level or higher in chemistry or other science related subjects.

At the Royal Society of Chemistry we offer the opportunity to make a difference and great benefits.

If you are interested in this opportunity, please apply before the end of our closing date.
