Vacancy: EHS Manager

Location: Cambridge

 

Johnson Matthey have an excellent opportunity for an EHS Manager to join our Life Science Technologies (LST) and Health teams in Cambridge, located on the Cambridge Science Park. Key responsibilities

 

  • Take a leading role in the development and reinforcement of EHS culture through behavioural programmes and initiatives
  • Develop the workforce at all levels to an appropriate set of clearly defined EHS competencies, ensuring that identified EHS training needs are delivered to a defined schedule as required by the business
  • Take a leading role in the development and maintenance of the site Process safety management system.
  • Liaise with multidisciplinary teams to ensure risk assessment processes are embedded in daily activities.
  • Adopt a leading role in business continuity processes for the Cambridge Site.
  • Supervise the assignment of chemical intermediates and Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients to control bands liaising with Group/Divisional Toxicology or third-party experts as appropriate
  • Maintain in house system for recording and reporting EHS metrics on accidents, incidents and near misses to teams and management. Implement root cause analysis to ensure preventive and corrective actions are undertaken
  • Liaise with Occupational Health and HR to ensure the management of appropriate health surveillance records; any work-related illness or injury is identified, reported, investigated and appropriate remedial actions are implemented
  • Develop/maintain an appropriate industrial/occupational hygiene monitoring programme at JM Cambridge
  • Liaise with external enforcement authorities on legal compliance with particular regards to Permitting Regulations, for example HSE EA.
  • Ensure compliance with local permit to work systems. Oversee and enable suitably trained individuals to issue contractor permits to work.

 

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Experience in a Health & Safety role in a chemical or pharmaceutical environment.
  • A recognised safety qualification, e.g. NEBOSH, BOHS, degree or IOSH membership, and recognised qualification (or equivalent experience) in Chemistry or a related science discipline.
  • Experience with process scale up (lab scale to small (kg) scale processes.
  • Capacity to lead potency/chemical assessment.
  • Experience with overseeing contractors, WCP.
  • Knowledge of regulations, compliance, law, EA, legal register etc
  • Experience in process safety desirable.
  • Experience with ISO14001:9001 desirable.
  • Ability to work with & in cross functional teams at all levels.
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to influence.
  • Proven understanding of some or all of the key responsibilities as above.
