Education Programmes Assistant

We are looking for a skilled, customer-focussed individual  to join and support our Education Publishing Team as an Education Programmes Assistant. 

 

In the UK, The Royal Society of Chemistry is the largest non-governmental funder of chemistry education. We believe that everyone should have access to a high quality chemistry education which is engaging, inspiring and relevant.  The goal of the Education Publishing team is to provide relevant and useful advice, resources, and practical support to educators and their students in schools, colleges and universities.

 

The Education Programmes Assistant role will provide support for the work of our Education Publishing team with a focus on supporting our Spectroscopy in a Suitcase (SIAS) scheme, the Teach Chemistry schools service and the UK Chemistry Olympiad. They will work closely with the programme coordinators of these services to provide day-to-day administrative and customer service support to help maintain excellent service delivery.

 

This is a permanent full-time position based in our Cambridge office, there may be the requirement for occasional travel to our London office although this will be rare. Occasional non-core working hours may be required.

 

The role will include:

 

  • Relationship management with senior managers from other organisations
  • Responsibility for special small developmental projects
  • Undertaking internal and external communication, organisational and admin tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Undertaking other such reasonable duties as required for the efficient and effective planning, operation and follow-up of educational activities including programmes, competitions and events.
  • Gather and present data for monthly reporting and project evaluation.
  • Support financial processes and budget management by raising and tracking electronic purchase orders, producing invoices and processing expenses.
  • Use own initiative to prepare reports and spreadsheets and write correspondence as required.
  • Arrange meetings for staff, members and visitors, including booking of rooms with appropriate facilities and catering, sending invitations, monitoring attendance and minute taking.
  • Provide customer service support for our education programmes and services, responding to queries and escalating where necessary to the appropriate team.
  • Use customer relations systems and maintain customer data within the team.
  • Support product development with customer insights including surveys, interviews, and research.

 

Essential

  • Previous administrative and operational experience in a complex organisation with many stakeholders.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a proactive approach to customer service.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft packages and an ability to learn in-house systems.
  • Good organisational and time management skills.
  • Ability to manage competing demands and workload.
  • Problem-solving skills.
  • Proven ability to work as a team.
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels.

Desirable

  • At least a basic understanding of and interest in the science education landscape in the UK.
  • Previous experience with supporting budget management and financial processes.
  • Ability to support and take the lead on aspects of data collection and reporting for different services.
  • Experience of using customer relationship management or audience management systems.
