What does a talented Design Team Lead have in common with chemistry? They’re both creative, bold, and test the boundaries of the status quo. They’re both lively and dynamic and willing to take a risk to make the world a better place. If this sounds like you, we’d like to talk.
The Royal Society of Chemistry needs a Design Team Lead to help us push the boundaries of our brand, confidently champion bold ideas, and inspire a great creative team to go even further.
As our Design Team Lead based in Cambridge you will lead a small team of design and creative professionals responsible for a graphic and digital design service for the whole organisation – from eye-catching exhibition stands to award-winning magazines and everything in between.
Our creative design work, both digital and print, must attract attention, inspire involvement and create the desire to take action among all our audiences. Design work must always strive to maintain the high standards and production values that reflect our mission, vision, brand and reputation – and also constantly evolve how we communicate with our audiences, reflecting the dynamism of chemistry itself.
The Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) is the world’s leading chemistry community, advancing excellence in the chemical sciences. The UK’s professional body for chemical scientists with over 54,000 members worldwide, we are a £50m-turnover not-for-profit organisation with over 500 staff operating around the world and an award-winning global knowledge business. For 175 years we have promoted, supported, and celebrated chemistry. We work to shape the future of the chemical sciences – for the benefit of science and humanity.
We have an exceptional diversity of audiences—from teachers, scientists and academics, librarians and corporates to politicians and the public. Our work includes activities focused on our role as a professional body (e.g. supporting members), a publisher (e.g. selling journals, books and databases), and as the voice of the chemical science community (e.g. campaigning to influence government policy).
We are looking for:
- In-depth specialist knowledge of design and technical knowledge of the software tools used in design creation, specifically Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Acrobat.
- A strong graphical flair and the ability to translate brand guidelines into visual designs for web and print.
- Experience of office software is essential and PC experience is desirable.
- Team player – able to work with and support other team members.
- Highly motivated, willing to learn and develop in the role.
- Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to work on your own initiative, co-ordinate the activity of the team and respond confidently to multiple project deadlines.
- Ability to integrate creativity and innovation into the working environment.
