The Royal Society of Chemistry’s Chemists’ Community Fund provides financial support for the relief and prevention of poverty, as well as advice and sign-posting to support members through challenging life events. Our network of volunteers also provide additional local support for members in need. This service is delivered through a team of Specialists with decisions for financial support made through the Benevolent Fund Grants Committee.

 

As Chemists’ Community Fund Assistant, you will support the day-to-day activities of the Chemists’ Community Fund by assisting the Specialists, the Chemists’ Community Fund Manager, and supporting our network of volunteers. You will provide assistance for preparing for the Benevolent Fund Grants Committee, including logging initial enquiries; undertaking casework for routine enquiries; managing filing and record keeping; arranging/processing payments to beneficiaries; supporting the volunteer network. You will work closely with other teams within Member Communities and will support other teams within Member Communities, where required.

 

This is a full-time (35-hour week) temporary role, to cover maternity leave for approximately 12-months. You will be conveniently based at the RSC’s Cambridge Science Park office, with free onsite parking and UK travel required.

 

We are looking for someone with excellent organisational and administrative skills who also has a good understanding of casework and would like to use or develop these skills further:

 

Essential: 

  • Articulate communicator with experience in a customer-focussed environment.
  • Excellent organisational skills and good experience of administrative tasks including filing, databases, word-processing, spreadsheet software and financial administration.
  • Able to work effectively as part of a team.
  • An empathetic approach to casework and willing to undertake knowledge-gathering tasks to support member enquiries.
  • Being aware of data protection and confidentiality issues at all times.
  • Must be able to handle phone calls and issues of a sensitive nature, demonstrating tact, diplomacy and the ability to relate to people who may be experiencing difficult personal circumstances.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of major state benefits and awareness of the availability of assistance from other sources, e.g. Local government and other charitable organisations.
