About the role: We are seeking a highly motivated neuroscientist / biologist to work in a multidisciplinary target validation and drug discovery environment. The role will have a broad impact across the portfolio from target selection through target validation and pharmacological testing. Using data from our propriety NETSseq platform the post-holder will work with a team of bioinformaticians and other neuroscientists to assess potential drug targets with particular focus on neuroinflammation and neurodegeneration disorders. The post-holder will then independently design, execute and analyze experiments to understand the mechanism of action of new targets and support their progression through to the identification of drug candidates. The individual will be expected to have significant input into the strategy of our target selection and validation activities and shaping the cell biology capability. They will be a confident presenter able to convey their ideas and results to both internal multidisciplinary teams and to external experts. This is an exciting opportunity to help shape the portfolio of a growing and ambitious biotech company and to understand the disease processes and changes occurring in human CNS diseases.
Requirements: The ideal candidate will have a PhD. in a neuroscience or related discipline with at least 3 years post-doc experience, or a BSc. and equivalent experience in cell biology relating to neuroinflammation/neurodegeneration. Expertise is required in primary cell culture, cell-based viability and enzyme activity assays, pharmacological and genetic manipulation, immunocytochemistry and high content imaging. Familiarity with transcriptomic techniques and some bioinformatic skills is advantageous as is experience with in vivo models of neurodegeneration.
