East Anglian Air Ambulance

East Anglian Air Ambulance is a life-saving charity that delivers advanced pre-hospital critical care to people suffering life-threatening or life-changing accidents or medical emergencies.  They literally bring the hospital to the patient.

They cover the East of England from bases in Cambridge and Norwich, operating a state of the art helicopter at each base crewed with two pilots, an A&E doctor and a highly-trained paramedic.

They fly 360 days a year, are cleared for night emergency operations and last year responded to around 3000 incidents, treating about 1900 patients. Currently they are unable to fly between midnight and 7am, this is purely because of cost.  By the end of 2020 they aim to become a 24/7 service so need to raise an extra £1m on top of the £12 we already raise.

As they do not get any ongoing government funding, we rely on the generosity of the community to support us – after all, we are a charity that’s there for everybody and anybody of any age.

They have just achieved two outstanding reports from the Care Quality Commission and have plans to extend our service to try to further minimise the impact of trauma and medical emergencies on the community that supports them. This includes the imminent launch of a first aid training service that gets members of the public knowing how to do CPR and being prepared to have a go. #togetherwesavelives
