Senior Scientist (CoE)
SENIOR SCIENTIST
Horizon Discovery, a leading provider of translational genomics research tools to support the development of personalized medicines, is searching for a Senior Scientist to support its Center of Excellence (COE) Program. The goal of the COE Program is to advance the application of rAAV-mediated gene-editing in functional genomics and translational medicine and to share the advances in gene targeting represented by the GENESIS technology platform and derived X-MAN cell lines with the global academic research community. These 50 research groups will become members of the Consortium, joining rAAV GENESIS pioneers the University of Washington, the University of Torino, Johns Hopkins University, the University of Minnesota, the University of Maryland, Case Western Reserve University and the University of Pittsburgh. At the heart of the GENESIS platform is the use of rAAV vectors that have a unique and powerful property in performing accurate and efficient gene-editing functions in human cells by switching on a natural and high-fidelity DNA-repair mechanism called homologous recombination (HR). When harnessed using rAAV gene-editing vectors, HR allows the precise alteration of any DNA sequence, permitting the correction of genetic defects in gene therapy applications, or the accurate modeling of genetic diseases in human cells in vitro. The role itself is an exciting blend of academia and industry; you will be working closely with leading academic groups, both within Oncology and new therapeutic areas, to enable them with GENESIS allowing the creation of isogenic cell lines at the cutting edge of research. As part of this you will work directly in the target labs to implement GENESIS. You will manage the projects from start to finish in collaboration with the academic groups. Upon development of new isogenic cell lines you will be responsible for transferring them to Horizon for commercialisation. You will also work with the in-house GENESIS teams to feedback new developments in rAAV gene targeting. You will work closely with COE Program Manager to deliver the GENESIS Centers of Excellence program. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES • Duties will include: o Project strategy and targeting vector design o On-site training of COE’s with the use of rAAV gene targeting o Troubleshooting/technical support for COE’s o Project management of COE projects o Identify new leads for future COE targets • You will support the rAAVers.org forum for the Centers of Excellence Program (technical input, client queries, interaction with in-house GENESIS teams, forum contributions, literature searches and updates)
REQUIRED SKILLS • PhD or equivalent in a Biological Science with experience of rAAV-mediated gene targeting • Excellent technical ability including troubleshooting • Excellent public presentation and communication skills • Knowledge of academic, biotech, Pharma research organizations. • Multicultural abilities, including the ability to work proactively with distributors • Native or native-like fluency in English mandatory with a second language (especially German) favoured
