To take responsibility for some of IT services central system administration tasks and to work as part of the IT Services team and provide support across a wide range of networks, hardware and software. The role will also provide IT systems administration and maintenance, propose improvements and provide 1st line telephone, e-mail and desk side support when required.

The IT Services Group supports a wide range of computing services within the company. This includes all aspects of providing working systems for office automation and technical computing.
The IT Services Group is responsible for all systems throughout the global enterprise including 500+ desktop and laptops, centralised storage, virtualised and physical infrastructure and various other specialist computers such as Sun workstations and servers. Key applications include Microsoft Office and Lotus Notes.
The IT Services Group defines the requirements for the purchase of new equipment, manages the installation, provides help and support to users, and undertakes routine system backups. The group is also responsible for all aspects of hardware, commonly used software, and networking.
Specific responsibilities
Have responsibility for the management of
video conferencing and audio visual equipment
the Alcatel-Lucent telephone system
centralised and standalone printers
Provide 1st line telephone, email and desk side support when required
Assist with the administration of
Windows XP, 7, Windows Server Operating Systems and Server Applications
VMWare ESX
Assist with the management of centralised backup servers, agents, tape libraries and backup media and perform periodic backup recovery tests
Take responsibility for some of IT services central system administration tasks
Log all calls on the internal system and maintain full documentation
Diagnose and resolve technical issues
Keep abreast of changes in technology and propose changes that may add value to the business
Minimum requirements
Proven ability to implement and support Windows XP, 7 and Server in a networked environment. Experience of migrating from XP to 7 would be advantageous
Proven ability to administer VMWare ESX
Significant experience of administering centralised printers, video conferencing appliances and telephone systems
Demonstrable ability to understand user needs and select suitable solutions in an IT environment
Ability and willingness to support all areas of the IT services user base as required
Excellent customer service, communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work well within a small team, possess good organisation skills and self motivated
Capable of working to defined procedures
Knowledge of LANDesk and PGP Universal Server / Desktop would be advantageous
A relevant recognised industry qualification, eg MCSE, would be advantageous
Due to the nature of the work, it will be necessary to obtain security clearance for the successful applicant, and therefore the applicant must hold UK nationality.
