Main purpose of the job

 

You will be positioned within a multi-disciplined project team and take responsibility for designing and coding DSP solutions for wireless products. This is a hands-on engineering role where you will be using your previous experience to bring maturity and speed to the design and implementation tasks as well as providing support to more junior members of the project team.

You will also work alongside highly experienced engineers to prepare specifications, design the system architecture, flesh out detailed component design and participate in the eventual hand-over of the full design to the client.

The DSP Group works closely with other disciplines to develop software-defined radio products for standards like LTE, 3G and WiMAX, as well as bespoke systems, and related technologies like audio and video compression. We use first principles thinking to create class-leading designs based on digital signal processors, ranging from our own in-house ASICs cores through to the highest-performance multi-core devices.

We typically write most of our software in C but when required we also use Assembler to achieve greater performance and reduced memory footprints. We additionally use MATLAB for algorithm and system modelling and scripting languages like Bash, Python and Perl for test frameworks.

Specific responsibilities

The role of the Senior Embedded DSP Engineer will be to:

·         Design, develop and test software implementations of DSP algorithms

·         Optimise and integrate implementations to run on target embedded hardware

·         Contribute ideas to the detailed design of a DSP system

·         Assist in constructing models and simulations of wireless systems and algorithms

·         Assist in delivering documentation of the systems that you have been implementing

·         Understand and digest the relevant standards for the wireless communications systems

·         Work within a cohesive multi-disciplinary project team focussed on delivering the design solution to our client

·         Contribute to IP development with the purpose of expanding and selling group capabilities

Minimum requirements

·         Good degree in Engineering, Computer Science or Mathematics

·         Recent and relevant industrial experience with wireless DSP

·         Understanding of wireless communications theory

·         Strong C programming and software engineering skills

·         Good understanding of computer hardware and the software-hardware interface

·         Experience of working with embedded hardware and tool chains

·         Experience of using MATLAB

·         Excellent numerical skills

·         Good verbal and written communication skills

·         A strong desire to learn and investigate new technologies

 

In addition, any experience of the following will also be beneficial:

·         Experience of Linux programming, scripting or administration

·         Experience of programming in Assembly Language

·         Experience of DSP Algorithm development

·         Experience of Audio/Video DSP
