FlexEnable triumphs at the IET Innovation Awards

  • Date 19 Nov 2016

With over 300 entries to the awards from 25 countries, FlexEnable has been recognised for its groundbreaking flexible electronics technology that allows electronics to be manufactured on flexible plastic film, the thickness of a sheet of paper. It can be used for the manufacture of glass-free, flexible displays and sensors with versatile applications in sectors including consumer electronics, automotive, digital signage, medical and security. The company has achieved several breakthroughs with flexible colour and video-rate plastic displays (LCD and OLED) and flexible X-ray image and fingerprint sensors.

Chuck Milligan, CEO of FlexEnable, said: “We are delighted to be named a double-winner at the prestigious IET Innovation Awards. This is a great recognition of FlexEnable’s disruptive technology platform and its potential to revolutionise electronics. It underlines the real impact flexible electronics can have both in bringing the surfaces we touch every day to life in a completely new way, and in enabling exciting new capabilities across automotive, medical technology, security,  IoT and other applications.”

IET President Jeremy Watson CBE, said: “Our Innovation Awards put the achievements of the incredible inventors who work in engineering and technology around the world into the spotlight and play a critical role in helping them further their endeavors.

“Innovation is an essential cornerstone for the growth of the global economy and raising the standard of living in all communities. It is a key differentiator that makes companies and projects successful and, in keeping with the IET’s mission to inspire excellence in engineering and technology, we are immensely proud to recognise, celebrate and show our support for these exceptional achievements.”

The 15 categories that make up the IET Innovation Awards are each independently judged by a panel of leading engineering experts in that field. The winners were announced on 16 November, at a prestigious ceremony hosted by TV presenter and adventurer Rob Bell.

About the IET

The IET is one of the world’s largest engineering institutions with over 167,000 members in 150 countries. It is also the most interdisciplinary – to reflect the increasingly diverse nature of engineering in the 21st century. Energy, transport, manufacturing, information and communications, and the built environment: the IET covers them all.

The IET is working to engineer a better world by inspiring, informing and influencing our members, engineers and technicians, and all those who are touched by, or touch, the work of engineers.

We want to build the profile of engineering and change outdated perceptions about engineering in order to tackle the skills gap. This includes encouraging more women to become engineers and growing the number of engineering apprentices.
